You can register your yacht from anywhere in the world without you or your vessel needing to be present in the chosen jurisdiction. All vessels must be registered correctly in order to sail in international waters.
When choosing a jurisdiction it is important to consider initial and annual registration costs, the owner’s country of residence, the age of the vessel, and of course where the vessel is to sail.
Vessels take on the nationality of the flag under which they sail, and we generally advise our clients to register under jurisdictions that can fly the Red Ensign (United Kingdom, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, Cayman Islands, BVI)
The British register is the most widely respected and recognised, and vessels flying the Red Ensign can receive help from British Consuls, High Commissions and the British Royal Navy.
As a vessel owner you are not required to hold a British Passport for your yacht or ship to carry the Red Ensign.
